Materials
We take pride in working with skilled artisans across India to bring our jewelry to life. All of our products are handcrafted using tradional jewelry-making techniques that have been passed down from generation to generation.
We work with a trusted network of gemstone dealers that ensure we source ethically earth-mined gemstones and diamonds.
Precious metals
Gold
We make our jewelry in a range of gold purities including 14k, 18k and 22k yellow gold.
Gold’s value increases over time, meaning that it is one of the only investments you can adorn your body with and carry with you throughout your life.
Care:
- Remove your jewelry before exercising or swimming
- Wipe down your piece after wearing with a dry, soft cloth and store it separately from your other jewelry to avoid scratching
Sterling Silver
Victorian settings offer a two toned setting as silver combines with gold. Our sterling silver is 92.5% pure silver, mixed with 7.5% other metals (copper, nickel).
Care:
- Our Victorian pieces have an oxidized silver finish which gives them and antique look. Over time, the oxidized silver may tarnish.
- Keep your Victorian pieces separate from your other jewelry.
- Silver tarnishes rapidly when exposed to certain substances in our everyday lives so we recommend caring for, wearing and storing your jewelry as mentioned in our care guide.
Stones
polki diamonds
Polki is a diamond in its most natural form - uncut, unfaceted, and unpolished. There are 3 types of polki: Syndicate, Zimbabwe & Kilwas. At VFJ, we use syndicate polki in the majority of our jewelry. For large statement pieces of polki, kilwas pieces are sourced.
Care:
- Always store your polki diamonds in an airtight container or pouch.
- Never soak or apply water to your polki diamonds. Moisture causes polki diamonds to change over time.
- Polki diamonds are delicate and requires a little extra care, read our full care guide for more details.
diamonds
We only use natural and ethically sourced diamonds in our pieces that follow the Kimberley Process.
Care:
Diamonds are the hardest naturally occurring substance on the planet, however they are not indestructible.
- To clean diamonds at home, you can soak the piece in a soap and water mixture or use a soft toothbrush to gently clean it
Gemstones
Gemstones
From emeralds and rubies to moonstones and turquoise, we only use natural gemstones in all of our VFJ pieces. Our artisans in Jaipur hand cut each natural stone, making each stone unique to its setting.
Care:
- Natural gemstones are very sensitive and don’t react well to hard surfaces and chemicals
- Since many natural gemstones can be quite delicate, hot water, harsh chemicals and cleaners should be avoided at all times
- Avoid contact with harsh, abrasive materials or glass cleaners and try to avoid leaving your pieces out in the sun as that alters the colour of the stones
- Clean your gemstones with a clean, soft, damp untreated cloth after wearing
- Do not use tissue paper or paper towels to clean gemstones as they can cause scratching
