In Conversation with Meetu Sandhu

Introducing our Conversation Series, where we sit down and chat with friends of VFJ to learn about their experiences, insights and the stories behind their fine jewelry choices.

We're excited to kick off the series with a longtime friend of the brand, Meetu Sandhu. One of our earliest collectors, we first met Meetu in 2010 and have continued to cherish our journey together.

Join us as she takes a heartfelt look back at her personal journey, emphasizing the value of trust, and how her cherished modern heirlooms have lovingly woven themselves into the fabric of her personality.

What significance does jewelry hold for you?
Jewelry has always had a cultural significance. Growing up in the community that I belong to, I grew up with a mother, aunts and grandmothers where jewelry was a huge part of who they were. It was a huge part of how we celebrate. In my teens and early twenties, there was an expectation that I would wear jewelry. Jewelry has been a journey as well. It's the evolution of my style, it's the extension of my personality.

Which piece of jewelry carries the most meaning for you?
If you just look at my ears right now, they're all Vishva pieces. They're all pieces I love and hold a different meaning to me. I would say, recently, it's definitely my solitaires. It's something I have wanted to do for myself. I guess they do become an heirloom. If one day my son decides to get married, or there's a woman, it may be something I can pass on and it's a piece of me.

How would you describe your journey with Vishva Fine Jewelry so far?
I absolutely adore and love every piece that I have. I keep coming back because for me, in every aspect of my life, trust is so important - I know that I can blindly trust Vishva, Annu and Auntie. They will always give me the best advice. Sometimes my ideas are out there, because that can be me, and they will reign me back and go "ok, maybe that's not very practical". I think about when we were looking at earrings for my brother's wedding, there were all these things that I think I spammed you with. Then, having the ability to talk through it with both of you to come to something that made sense and would have actually helped me achieve what I was trying to achieve.

What sets Vishva Fine Jewelry apart in your eyes?
Even with the element of them being typically more traditional, it's that they are still unique. You could not walk into any other shop in the GTA and see pieces like that. It's a really great balance between the traditional artisan work and at the same time, being able to develop pieces that someone like myself could wear with a polo and jeans. The pieces for me, they showcase the beauty of the architecture of India, and the fabrics and the artisans - they really represent the culture. For all those things, that's why Vishva is my go to.
